Hutton: This is why Rangers can beat Celtic to Borre signing after key update
Alan Hutton has suggested Alfredo Morelos could help Rangers beat Celtic in the race to sign Santos Borre from River Plate.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisting getting the 25-year-old on a free transfer would be a “no-brainer”.
As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday (June 22nd), Rangers have set their sights on snapping the Colombia international when his contract expires at the end of the month.
However, this site learned on Wednesday (June 23rd) Celtic have also registered their interest in the £15million-rated attacker.
Hutton suggested Morelos would help Borre settle into Rangers quickly thanks to their time together on international duty.
As such, he urged the Gers to push for a deal ahead of their Glasgow rivals.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “The backroom staff would have been monitoring this for a long time. It’s not just come out of the blue.
“They’ll know, without Alfredo, he’s a very good talent and someone they’d want to bring to the club.
“If he has been valued at £15million but he is on a free, it’s kind of an easy decision. That is if you’ve done your homework.
“If you know what he’s good at, what he would bring to your team and what he could change then it’s an absolute no brainer to bring someone with that top class quality to in.
“Should he come to the club, he obviously knows Alfredo. He can settle in quickly, start well, scores goals, then you can make that money in the future. It’s a win-win for Rangers either way.”
Borre scored 22 goals in 42 appearances during the 2019/20 campaign for River Plate and has eight goals this term.
He played with Morelos for Colombia’s under-20s and have been part of the senior national squad together.
