Queens Park Rangers are aiming to beat Birmingham City to the signing of Burnley striker Nahki Wells on deadline day, Football Insider understands.
Burnley have made Wells available for a move before Thursday’s transfer deadline as he is well down the pecking order at Turf Moor.
Football Insider revealed earlier that Birmingham are working on a deal to bring the striker to the Midlands and have held talks over a deal.
However, a source close to QPR, where Wells spent last season on loan, has told Football Insider that the club has made a late move to hijack that move and bring the Bermuda international back to Loftus Road.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, where he scored seven goals as he helped them secure Championship survival.
QPR are hoping the fact that Wells spent last season on loan at the club will give them the advantage over Birmingham in the race for his signature.
Wells signed for Burnley from Huddersfield for a fee close to £5million in the summer of 2017 but he’s only made 10 appearances for them and hasn’t scored a goal.
In other QPR news, the club has tabled a new 6-figure playmaker bid.
