Steven Gerrard gives Klopp some good transfer advice - this is who Liverpool need to sign
By Harry Sykes
Liverpool beat Hoffenheim 4-2 in the Champions League play-off second leg (6-3 on aggregate) to cruise into the group stage of the competition.
Holding a 2-1 lead from the first leg, their progress never seemed in doubt and some of Liverpool’s attacking was breathtaking.
However, they conceded two goals – three across the two legs – and they will need to stop shipping goals if they want to win silverware at the highest level.
Talking on the BT Sports broadcast after the game, Steven Gerard was asked if he thought that Liverpool could compete in the Champions League.
He said that they would be a good test for any opposition but said the real problems would come when they faced the world class teams.

“The problem is when you come up against a side like Real Madrid,” he said.
“Liverpool are stunning, sensational going forwards, but they give you chances at the other end.
“Playing in the Premier League and in the Champions League you need two players in every position, so he [Klopp] can rest players and make five or six changes.
“Have they got the strength in depth? They have going forward.”
Asked whether he thinks Liverpool need any more players he was unequivocal and said, “I think Liverpool should get one in defence and a centre midfielder.”
Klopp has brought in Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson (an unused defensive substitute tonight) and Dominic Solanke, but Gerrard believes that Klopp needs to add more to his squad if he wants to fight on all fronts.
However, the main thing for tonight was securing their place in the pot for the Champions League draw on Thursday.
They did that, scored six against the fourth best team in the Bundesliga and entertained the Anfield crowd. That’s not a bad start.
The Champions League draw takes place on Thursday at 5pm.
