Former Arsenal winger Ray Parlour believes that Liverpool are a world-class goalkeeper away from challenging for the Premier League title.
The Reds are currently third in the table, behind Manchester United and Manchester City and their issues between the sticks have been well-documented.
And it’s a position that both pundits think that if rectified, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be the ones who can rival Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side.
Speaking on Monday night’s The Debate alongside Tim Sherwood and broadcast at 9pm, Parlour said: “If Liverpool can find a target like David de Gea they have every chance of winning the league.
“You always have to have a good goalkeeper, at times they keep you in games. When I was at Arsenal, Seaman and Lehman kept us in games, they didn’t make mistakes at the wrong time.”
Is was a point that was backed up by the former Spurs manager, who added: “Liverpool are the closest team to be challenging Manchester City.
“It’s a key position and you’re not going to win anything without a top goalkeeper.”
Loris Karius is considered Jurgen Klopp’s current number one after taking Simon Mignolet’s place in goal.
The Belgian was displaced by his German teammate following the Reds victory over Manchester City in the Premier League back in January and as a result, Mignolet has admitted that he would have to consider his future at Anfield.
Liverpool have been linked with AS Roma’s Brazilian stopper Alisson and there were reports of a move for the Serie A star back in the January transfer window.
However, the player’s agent said that his client was happy in the Italian capital.
