Former Liverpool and Scotland ace Don Hutchison has predicted”tons of quality players” will want to sign for Rangers if they hire Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister as their new management team.
According to ESPN, Gerrard is the front runner to take over at Ibrox and will bring former Scotland captain McAllister to Ibrox with him as his assistant and Hutchison – who played with both at Anfield – thinks players will be desperate to sign up at Ibrox to play under the pair.
“If Rangers get Stevie G and Gary Mc. There will be tons of quality players that want to sign for Rangers and those two legends,” Hutchison said on his personal Twitter account.
Despite Gerrard’s lack of experience, his potential appointment has won support from Gers fans with many keen to see what the 37-year-old can do at Ibrox.
With Scott Arfield set to join in the summer and permanent deals looking likely for loanees Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings, the Gers could look very different next season.
Football Insider verdict:
If playing for Gerrard entices a better standard of player to want to join the Gers then it can only be a good thing, although the Light Blues will need to be wary of it simply becoming a procession of former team-mates of Gerrard’s. If Mark Allen can continue the promising work he has done so far in recruiting players then it should bode well for them this summer. There’s already a noticeable difference in some of the coverage the Gers are getting over the last few days and hiring Gerrard looks like it will pay-off in additional PR is nothing else.
