Xia delivers Aston Villa transfer update: One announcement Friday and three more signings on the way

By Will Butcher

Tony Xia has revealed that Aston Villa will make their second January signing on Friday.

Villa’s owner has already brought Man United’s Sam Johnstone to the Midlands this month on loan until the end of the season.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, Xia revealed he is 99.9 per cent a new signing will be announced at noon while remaining in the market for a three new players.

Nottingham Forest Henri Lansbury is expected to seal a move to Villa in the near future, after the Telegraph’s John Percy revealed on Thursday that a deal would be completed in 24 hours.

Barnsley captain Conor Hourihane is expected to join the former Arsenal youth player, after The Mail claimed the midfield ace was due at Bodymoor Heath to complete a move.

Outspoken Xia has decided to continue his overhaul of the Villa squad despite bringing in nine summer signings such as Ross McCormack, Jonathan Kodjia and James Chester.

Football Insider verdict:

Xia’s news will delight Villa fans as the Midlands giants desperately need a kickstart in their bid to climb up the Championship table and continue Bruce’s reputation as a promotion expert. Currently 13th in the second tier of English football, drastic action is needed with Villa’s midfield failing to provide any real quality this season. Bringing in both Lansbury and Hourihane will add an attacking bite from deep as well as strong leadership in the middle of the park – both players are captains of their current sides. A handful of fresh new faces at Villa Park could give Bruce the boost he needs to secure his fifth career promotion to the Premier League.
