Top-flight side plot swoop for Rangers striker, swap deal mooted in major U-turn – report

Turkish giants Fenerbahce are set to make an incredible offer for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, by offering defender Martin Skrtel plus cash to the Gers.

According to Turkish website Yeniakit, the Turks have revived their interest in Morelos and are set to offer Steven Gerrard the chance to be reunited with his former Liverpool team-mate.

The Gers were reportedly interested in bringing Skrtel to Ibrox earlier this summer but couldn’t agree a deal for the Slovakian defender.

Football Insider verdict:

This would be a really interesting proposition for the Gers but after signing Nikola Katic and the expected arrival of Brighton’s Connor Goldson then it might already be too late. It’s clear Fenerbache aren’t interested in paying Rangers’ asking price for Morelos and seem intent on trying to find a way to work around it. Signing Goldson and Katic doesn’t necessarily mean the end of any interest in Skrtel as it could simply open the door for an easier departure for Bruno Alves or Fabio Cardoso – likely Alves given his wages. One big stumbling block though could be Skrtel’s wages, however, if Fenerbahce are using him as fodder in a transfer deal then it should help him reach a deal with the Gers. Skrtel would definitely be a quality addition to the squad but, financially, the Gers need to make sure it makes sense for them. Rangers have thrown enough money down the drain in recent years.
