Tottenham backed to sell Richarlison & sign ‘brilliant’ replacement – expert

Tottenham Hotspur have been backed to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney as the club looks to return to the top four next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs defender Alan Hutton believes the club is “crying out for a striker.”

Football Insider revealed that Ange Postecoglou is “obsessed” with signing a forward this summer to truly replace Harry Kane.

The 28-year-old England international could be seen as the man to fill those boots, especially given his experience in the top flight with Brentford.

Football Insider previously reported that Toney is one of two names being targeted this summer by Spurs.

Sources say that Brentford will allow the striker to leave if his price tag is met due to him being out of contract next summer.

Tottenham could be fired back into the top four with Ivan Toney

Football Insider revealed that Spurs have set aside a “huge” sum of cash for big-money transfers, which could be perfect for signing Toney.

The Brentford striker is in demand this summer, but his goalscoring ability could be what Tottenham are missing to get back into the top four.

They’re crying out for a striker,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“They need that guy who’s going to score 20-plus goals for them, who’s going to help them get back into that top four.

“He’s brilliant and I think he’s the one that you need.

“For him to go to somewhere like Villa where [Ollie] Watkins is already there, I don’t know it, just doesn’t really sit well with me.

“Maybe Villa fans would like it because it’s other options. I’m just trying to think of a player’s point of view and actually playing.

“I think there’ll be more opportunity at Tottenham for him, and Richarlison could be leaving.

“I know [Heung min] Son’s played up there but I prefer him from the left, so I think that could be a good move if they’re willing to pay the money.”
