Sources: AFC Wimbledon agree to sign Brentford rising star Pressley

AFC Wimbledon have agreed to sign Brentford forward Aaron Pressley, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

Pressley is the son of former Scotland international Steven Pressley and scored prolifically for the Bees’ ‘B’ side last term.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Wimbledon have reached an agreement to take the 19-year-old on loan this season.

Pressley has also attracted interest from Fleetwood, Salford, Forest Green, Stevenage and Leyton Orient, as first revealed by this site in June.

He signed a new two-year deal with an option for a further year in May.

Pressley won the club’s Players’ Player of the Season award after netting 26 for Brentford’s second-string side in 2020-21.

The young attacker made three appearances as a substitute for the Bees senior team and featured in the matchday squad on 16 occasions.

Edinburgh-born Pressley began his career with Hearts in Scotland before being recruited to Aston Villa’s academy aged 13 in 2012.

He joined Brentford in January last year and was described as having “massive potential” by Brentford B coach Neil MacFarlane.

Joe Pigott, 27, was Wimbledon’s top scorer last term with 21 goals.

But he departed for Ipswich Town following the expiry of his contract and left Mark Robinson without a natural goalscorer in his ranks.

Pressley is well behind established stars like Ivan Toney at Brentford as they look towards a first season in the top-flight since the 1940s.

As revealed by this site yesterday (15th July), Thomas Frank’s side have submitted a bid for 18-year-old Wimbledon goalkeeper Matthew Cox.
