Rangers tipped to sign new Morelos after £13m reveal - Hutton

Alan Hutton has tipped Rangers to sign a “like for like” striker should Alfredo Morelos leave Ibrox this summer.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Light Blues would dip into the transfer market despite having several other centre-forwards on the books.

As revealed by Football Insider on June 26th, Rangers have told Porto Morelos has a £13million price tag after an approach from the Portuguese giants.

Morelos has two years left on the contract he signed back in 2019.

Rangers are in the market for new attackers this summer, with Colombia international Santos Borre among their targets.

They are also keen on versatile America de Cali attacker Santiago Moreno.

Steven Gerrard already has Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten, Jermain Defoe and new signing Fashion Sakala as alternatives to Morelos.

However, Hutton suggested a new striker would be Ibrox-bound if the “main man” leaves.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “They’ll definitely have something lined up if you’re to lose your main man.

“He has been that main man, if you want. I think all the pressure was on him to score the goals in Gerrard’s first couple of seasons. He was pivotal to Rangers and everything that they’ve done.

“Moving forward, they’ve brought in reinforcements. When he did have that dip in form, there were other players they had to lean on, to take that weight and the pressure of scoring goals.

“Moving forward, they can deal without him. They have done it in the past but they’ll definitely have targets lined up. Bring somebody else in who can fill that void.

“It’s not a case of letting Morelos go and nobody comes in. It will be like for like, the new Morelos, I would think.”
